GameSpot, May 2021

“The video game band Super MadNES is releasing a new studio album, Fantasy Battles, which is inspired by the music of Final Fantasy. GameSpot is happy to be able to exclusively reveal the music video for the band’s “Force Your Way” track from Final Fantasy VIII.
Fantasy Battles aims to honor the battle themes from the Final Fantasy series, while it also features a cover of the “True Survivor” song from the movie Kung Fury.”

Decibel Magazine, March 2017

“Super MadNES has more than one nerd performing the music. That pays off – the interplay livens up the proceedings considerably. Blasters & Daggers (self-released) is a split album, but not between bands – it’s divided between songs from Mega Man X and Super Ghouls ‘N Ghosts.”

OC Weekly, July 2019

“Super MadNES have taken the video game music scene by surprise since their formation by adding traditional heavy metal flair to retro fan-favorite Nintendo soundtracks–a combo that would have likely concerned most mothers in the ‘80s. The collision of influences such as Judas Priest, Rainbow, Accept and Iron Maiden with the passion for Castlevania III, Batman, Megaman X and Robocop produces one hell of a performance to show-goers.”

Daily Bulletin, January 2019

“As video games have grown in popularity, so have bands devoted to playing the music of these games. The band Super MadNES combines heavy metal and retro video game music. The Los Angeles band regularly tours the United States performing at gaming and hard rock events and festivals. They have become quite popular and established themselves as one the most hardworking video game bands around, releasing music every year.”

Who is Super MadNES?

Super MadNES is a Los Angeles, CA live tribute to retro video games and traditional 80s heavy metal music, creating riff-oriented guitar & synth arrangements to classic NES, SNES and arcade soundtracks.

Since 2016, the band has released 3 full-length albums, built a strong following, toured throughout several states in the country, received press praise by major music magazines and newspapers such as Decibel Magazine, Los Angeles Daily News, OC Weekly, Orange County Register, and performed at major gaming events in the US such as Anime Expo, BitGen Gamer Fest, MAGwest, Retro City Festival, Replay FX, California Extreme, Game On Expo, and Arcade Expo to name a few.

Summers of 2018 and 2019 saw the band promoting their NES themed album “Gothic Warriors” with a successful run of headlining shows, gaming event performances, and tours on both the east and west coasts while performing the music from classic games such as Castlevania III, Batman, Double Dragon, Ninja Gaiden, and Megaman X along with an action fueled pixelated visual show.

In 2021, the band released a new album entitled “Fantasy Battles”. A Final Fantasy themed album paying tribute to battle themes from across the game series, as well as the the iconic hit “True Survivor” from the Kung Fury movie originally performed by David Hasselhoff.

Finally, Summer and Fall 2022 saw the band making a triumphant return to the live stage with tours on both the east and west coasts, festival appearances and headlining concerts. All with an upgraded stage and light show.

Now in January 2024, Super MadNES finally made their live debut at MAGfest as one of their headliners. And their performance was talked about as “One of the best performances at MAGfest in the last 10 years”.
Currently the group is working on their newest album. An arcade-themed release featuring music from Robocop, Ninja Gaiden, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Double Dragon, and Super Contra. To be released this coming Summer 2024 season. And the group plans to spend the whole of 2024 performing and touring.

Super MadNES is Nico Saavedra, Ryan Iyengar, Josh Seguin, and Casey Trask.

Other Projects: Nico Saavedra performs in Minibosses. Josh Seguin performs in Shrednobi. Casey Trask performs with Ripper Owens (Ex-Judas Priest).
